Consciousness makes CSR exercise non-obligatory and therefore enhances the awareness of the act of giving unconditionally as well as lovingly, feels Sir Dr Huz (Huzaifa Khorakiwala), CEO, Wockhardt Foundation. The Foundation is dedicatedly working for the socio-economic upliftment of the needy people in collaboration with the efforts of other NGOs and government run programs.
The human mind dazzles at its best when it is blessed with freedom from shackles and constraints. This is especially applicable to the noble domain of Corporate Social Responsibility wherein the otherwise-hard-nosed business leaders turn their focus on to helping needy fellow humans in innumerable ways.
CSR’s very essence lies in the joy of giving without strings attached or ulterior motives, which makes giving an end in and of itself rather than a means to an end.
It is an unmatchable combination of nobility and compassion that is best experienced wen it is done without being coerced. In fact, the moment coercion enters the picture, the same act of giving becomes an act of snatching away, which is the very antithesis of giving.

Self-consciousness is an indispensable factor of CSR. It is an extremely important component of charity and compassion, which adds value not only to the act of giving but becomes the bedrock on which the very persona of the giver builds the pillars cum edifice of CSR. Consciousness makes the entire exercise voluntary and therefore enhances the awareness of the act of giving unconditionally as well as lovingly.

It is in this ennobling spirit that Wockhardt Foundation has dedicated itself to the selfless exercise of philanthropy under the care of Sir Dr Huz (Huzaifa Khorakiwala) over the past decade. The core element cum prime objective of Wockhardt Foundation is taking health care to the doorstep of the teeming millions of our country living in the remotest locations where there is not even a modicum of quality health care at present, even after we became independent decades ago. The mobile clinics of Wockhardt Foundation not only take diagnostic and therapeutic facilities as their outreach but also synergizes with the efforts of other NGOs and even the government run programs.
In addition to the mobile health clinics, Wockhardt Foundation actively carries out several other community projects such as:
- Khel Khel Mein, wherein children are taught human values through appropriately designed educational cum entertainment packages
- E-learning, wherein quality education at school level is taken to places where there is a paucity of trained teachers and well-thought-out curricula
- Bio-Toilets, wherein environment-friendly disposal of human waste is facilitated through well designed toilet units using biological degradation
- Waste disposal wherein recycling of plastic waste is facilitated
- Skill development wherein students are taught skills that can help them get jobs in health-related sectors e.g. hospital assistant, nursing assistant
- Village development projects wherein clusters of villages are adopted for all-round development such as water, agriculture, infrastructure etc
- Anganwadis wherein children are taken care of on health and nutrition fronts
- Organ donation wherein awareness is created on the importance of donating organs which can save lives in significant numbers

The World Peacekeepers Movement (TWPM) is a movement based on the enlightening concept of The World Peace Triangle – Peace with Oneself, Peace with People & Peace with Nations – Representing Intellectual Depth, Emotional Appeal & Practical Realism. It starts with the 7 Peace Values of Gratitude, Forgiveness, Love, Humility, Giving, Patience and Truth. It signifies the world’s mass grass roots movement of peace through the creation of The World’s Largest Army – The World Peace Army. With over 2 million Peacekeepers, The World Peace Army is the world’s 2nd largest army.

Wockhardt Foundation is making a definitive impact on the lives and thoughts of millions of people across the country and overseas. The unique feature of our efforts is the value base that we create and nurture in all our activities and services. The value-based texture of our programs is palpable in each and every sphere where Sir Dr Huz imparts a direct and personal style cum substance and that is precisely where we stand quite apart from the countless other projects of charity that pervade our country.

CSR is an integral and unavoidable component of any social service that one may try to initiate / implement in a country like India where due to socio-economic factors that have pervaded the society over the decades and centuries, it is imperative for corporate bodies to directly participate in social development, either as a stand-alone effort or in collaboration with programs run by the government which obviously would have more resources at its disposal but would need assistance in implementation at the grassroots level. Such efforts should be encouraged on as many fronts as possible since it leverages the best of all worlds.
