The central government recently said that Companies spending to deal with the coronavirus menace will come under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.
“In view of the spread of novel #CoronaVirus in India, its declaration as pandemic by the WHO, and decision of Government of India to treat this as notified disaster, it is hereby clarified that spending of CSR funds for COVID-19 is eligible CSR activity,” Finance and Union Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted in this regard. Starting in the City of Wuhan of China in December 2019, the COVID 19 has affected over 400 people in India with official casualty figures reaching to 9. The Companies Act 2013 has made provisions for the companies to dole out a part of their profit towards philanthropic activities or community development.
