Mr. Chougulehas devoted more than three decades for the welfare and upliftment of people. He has been listed amongst one of The 100 Global Indian (2004 & 2009), one of the 100 Most Powerful Arabian Indian (2011/2012/2013) and one of the 100 Super Indians of MENA countries (2013). He has also been conferred the most prestigious “Prawasi Bhartiya Samman” by President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil.

An educationist and social activist, Mr Hassan Chougule is a prominent personality in Doha. Apart from being a businessman and Founder of Emad Group of Companies and Vice -Chairman, Grand Group of Hotels, Qatar, MrChougule has devoted more than three decades for the welfare and upliftment of people. MrChougule is a multi-faceted gentleman, a successful businessman, a socio – cultural activist, a promoter of quality education and staunch supporter of Urdu language. He is the President, Indian Overseas Congress for Qatar.

He is the only Indian in Qatar who has headed all the three apex bodies functioning directly under the Embassy of India, Qatar as (i) Indian Business Council (ii) Indian Cultural Centre & (iii) Indian Community Benevolent Forum and a Founding father of DPS Modern Indian School – Qatar, a branch of India’s brand ‘Delhi Public School’.

He is also the Founder Chairman, Ideal Foundation Mumbai.

Mufti Abdul Kadir Barkatulla is a prominent Islamic Sharia’h law scholar with a strong background in economics and finance. He has been trained extensively both in traditional Islamic and modern Western educational traditions in India and UK. He received an MPhil in Informatics from the University of Wales (UK). He acquired a Mufti (diploma) in Islamic law and Fazil (Bachelor of Islamic Studies) from the Islamic University, India.

Mufti Barkatulla is a Lecturer of Islamic Finance at Ebrahim College, London and served as a senior Imam of North Finchley London mosque for a decade. As a director of Islamic Computing Centre, Mufti published (1986) electronic databases of Qur’an, Hadith, History and Islamic Law on CD-ROMs. As one of Shari’ah Judges at the Islamic Shari’ah Council, London, Mufti acquired wide experience of dealing with socio-cultural and economic issues of Muslims living in UK and Europe. Mufti Barkatulla contributes regularly to ethnic and mainstream print and electronic media. Mufti is a member of the Sharia supervisory boards of many financial institutions including Al-Rayan bank, formerly known as Islamic Bank of Britain, Lloyds TSB, Arab Banking Corporation, London and United Bank Limited, UK.

As a respected Scholar, and maintainer of the Islamic Helpline, he has a wealth of experience in Islamic community and financial issues in Europe.

Sir Dr. Huz is the CEO of Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organization which runs several programmes in health, education, water and sanitation across the country, benefitting & touching millions of lives every year.
He is the Founder of “The World Peacekeepers Movement”, an online movement comprising of more than 2 million peacekeepers, forming the world’s 2nd largest army. Sir Dr. Huz is also the Chairman of “The Peace Mission Pvt. Ltd.
For his contribution to society, he has received many prestigious awards (50 so far) & titles, one of the recent ones being – Knighthood – which was bestowed on him by the Ecumenical Medical-Humanitarian Order Knights of St. John of Jerusalem (Knights of Charity).

He has also been bestowed with the Princehood Royal Title ‘His Highness’ for preserving the wisdom and spirit of the kingdom of Panembahan Mempawah, Indonesia. He has been appointed as the Peace Ambassador for South Asia by the “International Association of Educators for World Peace”, an affiliate body of the United Nations. He is the recipient of 11 Honorary Doctorates.

Sir Dr. Huz is an MBA from Yale University, USA, and serves as the Executive Director of Wockhardt Limited and is part of the promoter family of the Wockhardt Group – a leading pharmaceutical and healthcare group.

Dr. Shariq Nisar

Professor at Rizvi Institute of Management Studies and Research (RIMSR)

Dr. Shariq Nisar is a Professor at Rizvi Institute of Management Studies and Research (RIMSR). Also, he is Adjunct Professor at ITM Business School where he has setup India’s first Center for Alternative Finance. Prior to joining RIMSR he worked at the Harvard Law School, USA as Senior Visiting Fellow. Before moving to academics Shariq spent over a decade and a half in the Indian finance industry developing financial products and services that aimed at improving financial inclusion and increased investment in socially responsible sectors. He made some seminal contributions to India’s financial sector by launching India’s first shariah index with the Bombay Stock Exchange, first mutual fund scheme and first venture capital scheme approved by the Indian capital market regulator, SEBI. He also played key role in the design and launch of Shariah Index at Chittagong Stock Exchange, Bangladesh. He was invited to make presentation before the Select Committee of Indian Parliament during the discussion on Insurance Amendment Bill 2015. Shariq continues to hold board positions at many companies.

On the academic side Shariq has been associated with many universities, colleges and institutes in designing academic courses, conducting researches and delivering workshops for faculty and industry professionals. He has established India’s first Center for Alternative Finance at ITM Business School. He has authored three books, one of which is used by the BSE Institute as text book for Islamic finance certification. His second book, Islamic Finance and Development (co-authored with Nazim Ali) was published by Harvard Law School, USA. His third book, Takaful and Islamic Cooperative Finance: Challenges and Opportunities (coedited with Nazim Ali) is published by Edward Elgar, UK, 2016. In addition, Shariq has authored 60 research papers and articles. He has participated in 37 international conferences and 33 National level conferences. Shariq served as Joint Editor of Islamic Economics Bulletin between 2000 and 2005. Shariq is recipient of PhD in Economics from Aligarh Muslim University, India.

For his contribution to Indian financial system Shariq received Skoch Digital Inclusion Award 2011 under the category inclusion of minorities in India’s financial system on “Digital Inclusion Day”, New Delhi, September 1, 2011. He also received Honorary Award from Islamic Finance Forum of South Asia (IFFSA), Colombo in July 2016 for his contribution Indian finance industry through Islamic Finance. Public Health Analyst, Social Development professional & Researcher.

Kripa is a Public Health professional, with a bachelors in Physiotherapy from India with more than thirteen years of working experience.  She also holds a Diploma in Hospital and Healthcare management and is a certified AHM-250 professional from AHIP.

She started her career as a practitioner (Physiotherapist) and worked with patients at the community level thus getting a first-hand feel of the needs of patients. Her rich experience comes from her extensive working with various social developmental organizations in health and education. She has worked with MNCs, governments and various NGOs and INGOs to develop, manage and improve efficiency of their developmental programs. A data analyst, she comes with a vast experience in the ‘Monitoring and Evaluation’ of large projects and programs alike; towards the building of strategy and making the programs more robust and efficacious.

She has a strong inclination to working with technology and data in social development. In the past she has helped several organizations set-up and automate their management and data systems. A public speaker, she has spoken at several national level conferences, advocating healthcare reforms through policy and has conducted health awareness sessions and camps. Her contributions to Public Health; research and its development through advocacy and policy planning are ameliorating in nature. An avid community health promoter, she is active and believes strongly in delivering health promotional talks and support activities on various occasions.

Kripa has served as a ‘Core-Committee member’, with the Bureau of Indian Standards, MHD-17 , Government of India, Committee member: Mission and Vision- IHIN (India Health information Network), Preliminary Committee; National E-Health Authority (NeHA, a promotional, regulatory and standards-setting organization in Health Sector). She has also acted as the external consultant (on invitation) to the m-Cessation program, run by WHO-GoI; to review , evaluate and help mitigate the bottlenecks faced in the implementation of the program.

Najat Abdul Raheem

Najat AbdulRaheem is the Group founder and CEO of Shoura Business Group. She has a vast experience in Strategy, Innovation, Business development, customer experience and ICT in sectors of telecommunication and health. Proven success in establishing new functions, and designing/implementing strategies for the telecom sector. Combine entrepreneurial drive with business management skills to drive gains in revenue, market share and operational excellence. Formerly, headed Innovation & Business Development and Contact Center departments in the telecom company – Ooredoo.

Najat holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Qatar University and Master’s degree in Computer/Information Technology from Long Island University, USA. Successfully completed a number of qualifications that includes Current and Future Executive Qatari Leader program through QLC and various other leadership and innovation building programs from some of the renowned B-Schools in the world including – Harvard Business School, HEC-Paris, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), IMD –International Institute for Management Development (IMD –Singapore.

She joined Ooredoo in 2005 as an Assistant Manager, to scale-up to become the Contact Center Director in 2008. It is during this period she formulated an innovative business strategy, which won her and the company many awards. Further moving up the success ladder, Ms. Najat became the Director –Business Development and Innovation at Ooredoo. Under her leadership the innovation function was established and various innovative programs were launched at Ooredoo. She was at the forefront in building JVs for the company and introducing new lines of businesses to establish technology based ventures and increase revenues.

Her tenure at Ooredoo and her strategic thinking won her recognition at the company including ‘Qtel CEO Excellence Award, 2010. Ms. Najat was also responsible for bagging international awards on behalf of the company such as ‘Gold for Best Customer Service and ‘Bronze for Best Contact Center at the Contact Center World Awards, London. She invited to be on the jury of many committees for innovative idea evaluations.

Sarita Vijayan

Social Activist and Entrepreneur

Sarita Vijayan is the Founder of FYI (For Young India) Creative Marketing Pvt. Ltd. She is a serial entrepreneur and social activist with over 18 years of experience in curating and executing initiatives for the betterment of urban spaces in India. Sarita has been in senior editorial positions in all the major media houses in India and continues to consult with NGOs, large infrastructure and design companies with regard to initiatives in urban India. She is also the brain behind The War Room, a multi- pronged platform, both online and on-ground, focusing on solutions and systems to empower urban women in their journey towards attaining equal rights and freedom. The four specific issues addressed by the venture include Finance, Legal, Self-Defence and De-Conditioning.

Sarita began her career journey as an Assistant Editor with the Business India Group in 1996. She later became the Editor and Brand Director of Jasubhai Media. She is a professional who is passionate about using ideas and innovations for social good specifically for children and women. Over the years, she has done pro bono work for NGOs that rehabilitate children and believes that every woman can make her own choices. She was also associated with CRY on two projects like Iccha Campaign and Yellow Fellow. The objective of Iccha campaign was to create awareness for education of girl child. The Yellow Fellow campaign aims to build public awareness for children and their right to a happy childhood, through a series of fun-filled yet meaningful engagement activities where the people at large will be encouraged to show their support for children by becoming Yellow Fellows.

Sarita has also volunteered across Mother Teresa homes. Having worked for the Swacch Bharat campaign, she was instrumental in conducting more than 50 clean-up drives across Maharashtra. She has also organized and spearheaded workshops on women rights in offices, societies and colleges. She encourages young students of architecture and engineering streams to provide solutions for Indian villages, safer streets, housing, etc.

Sarita has a Bachelor’s degree in Law from GLC and an Economics (Major) from the University of Mumbai. She is a certified ReebokONE trainer apart from being certified in other functional training including step aerobics, Zumba, Pilates, Callanetics, core, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and hatha yoga. She is also trained in different dance forms like contemporary dance, bachata, tango, and kathak.

Some key initiatives undertaken by Sarita are as follows.

  • ‘India Urban Space’ an exhibition of ideas for ‘India Forward’ by 21 states of the country. Each state showcased their plans for the city. The event was inaugurated by the Minister of Urban Development
  • ‘361° Conference’, Asia’s largest dialogue on urban design with over 2000 delegates from all over the world. The conference has explored themes focusing on the informal city and its impact on urban life.
  • The ‘AEC World Expo’, a design expo that had international firms like ZahaHadid Architects, RMJM and Norman Foster take part and showcase their work. Over 40,000 visitors visited this forum.
  • Curation of the Urban Arts and Design section of Asia’s largest Arts and Culture Festival, the ‘Kala Ghoda Arts Festival’. The festival sees over 7,00,000 people over its 10 day duration.
  • ‘Street Smart’, a design competition in collaboration with NGO Janaagraha for solutions to improve India’s city streets.
  • Along with the Harvard School of Design (South Asia Initiative), she curated an annual conference focusing on ‘Design as Social Capital’. The conference is attended by senior government and construction professionals.
  • Her firm is currently commissioned by leading Steel company to execute ‘Rebuilding Dreams’, an online repository of information (building construction research, drawings and technology, professional databases and helplines) on disaster proof construction for South East Asia.
  • Curation of ‘Building for a Billion’, an international design competition for housing every Indian with over 4,000 registrations from national and internationals architects.
  • Curation of India’s most futuristic conference on architecture, planning and urban/rural development ‘Confluence 2018’ themed on ‘Cities on the Horizon’.
  • Curation of ‘FAB Biennale’ – the world’s first biennale on disruption in design and India’s first biennale on the future of architecture.
  • Curation of ‘Village 2047’, a national design competition for transforming rural India with over 1,400 registrations from across the country.
  • Curation of India’s most futuristic conference on architecture, planning and urban/rural development ‘Confluence 2019’ themed on ‘Thinking Cities’.
